The 50th Parade will honor our history and traditions and create some new ones, as well! Let's start with Saturday when Central Pennsylvania Region stages the first ever National Literature and Parts Swap meet on the spacious parking lots of Hershey Park, one of America's premier amusement parks. Cap that off in the evening with our spectacular Fifties Welcome Party sponsored by Porsche Cars of North America.
Sunday, June 25th 2005 is C-Day, which is what we're calling the 50th Parade Concours d'Elegance AND Porsche Parking Corral and Car Show. We think it will be one of the largest, if not THE largest gathering of Porsches on U.S. soil. For the first time, you will have a choice of squeaky-cleaning your car for the traditional Concours or just parking it on our field of dreams and surveying everything from a lawn chair. New, too, this year will be our Concours Awards Ramp, in the tradition of the Pebble Beach Concours, on which first place Class and Division winners may chose to receive their trophies. Old will be the Historic Car Display which will feature myriad historic racing and limited production Porsches, some of which have not been seen publicly in decades.
You will be able to enjoy not one but two rallies at our Parade! The TSD rally on Monday will be short and sweet, winding itself through the scenic Appalachians and serpentine Susquehanna River Valley north of Hershey and Harrisburg. On Tuesday, bring your Porsche or your tow vehicle and the entire family for a relaxing gimmick rally over covered bridges and through the historic Amish farm country of Lancaster County.
Tuesday is also something new, but borrowed, too! One of the primary goals for the formation of the Porsche Club Parades fifty years ago was to disseminate technical information about the marque to its members through factory representatives in attendance. Then as today, many members enjoyed learning about the technical aspects of the Porsche automobile. For 2005, you'll be able to earn a sheepskin by attending classes and sessions at our Porsche Club Academy Day, which will devote itself to all things technical.
Traditional events will be awesome! Our autocross on Wednesday and Thursday will be held on the "largest paved surface" in Pennsylvania, located between Hershey's amusement park and the Giant Center and just a few minutes from Parade headquarters. We guarantee third gear and lots of smiles! This year's Tech Quiz will be fun and informative, with a special theme celebrating 50 years of the Porsche Parade and the 50th Anniversary of the Porsche Club of America.
Then there are some really special venues you'll just have to do! To honor our past and to point the way to the future, we will have an actual Parade of Porsches on Wednesday evening, June 29 from Hershey Park to the Antique Automobile Club of America Museum. A reception and special Porsche tour of the museum will follow. And speaking of museums, don't miss our own PCA 50th Anniversary Museum at the Lodge opening on Monday of Parade week that will feature 14,000 square feet of exhibits, cars, and Porsche memorabilia! Our Parade would be remiss if we didn't offer Parade participants the opportunity to take their cars to the premier track on the East Coast, Watkins Glen, a mere four hour drive from Hershey. In conjunction with Potomac Region, we hope you can attend this special weekend deal for Parade-goers at The Glen from July 2d-3d
And let us entertain you! Our banquets will be themed by decade and will feature an array of surprises and guest speakers. Please enjoy our Goodie Store- we'll have any number of special sales and collectible items available throughout the week. We've extended the hours in Hospitality for internet users, and we've set up a slot car track that will challenge novice and hard core racers alike.
Workers are critical to any Parade, and we need YOU to contribute a little bit of your time and talents to make our celebration that much more special. Please volunteer! With all of us pitching in, we're hopeful that after Parade week is over you will find yourself saying that Hershey was one of the finest Porsche experiences of your life.
Here's to 50 years of PCA and Parades and to all us of who have been and will be a part of it!
